About Michael Lee
Education and Skillset
I am a 23 year old graduate from Staffordshire University where I spent three years studying BSc (Hons) Computer Games Design.
In an effort to break into the games industry I am currently seeking work as a 3D Artist for a UK games developer. I am open to any opportunities that a developer may be able to offer me, and am very keen to gain some hands-on work experience within my chosen field. I am also fully prepared and willing to relocate if necessary for a suitable position.
I have spent considerable time working in 3d Studio Max and have developed skills in the following areas:
High and Low Polygonal Modeling
Texture Mapping
Character Rigging
Animation
Lighting Solutions
I have also gained hands-on experience and knowledge of a number of other development packages including: Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop.
During my time at university I created a number of 3D based practical pieces, which were used in assignment work to demonstrate my understanding of various tools and techniques. These pieces of work are what essentially make up the majority of my design portfolio, and show a clear progression of my skills and overall ability, from my first 3D scene to my final year project.
I am very passionate about games development, and am both committed and eager to work within such an exciting and fast growing industry.
Recent History & Interests
I grew up in a small town in Gloucestershire called Lechlade, and lived there until I moved to Stafford to begin my degree qualification. After graduating in 2007, I decided that I wanted to see some of the world before seeking graduate employment.
After finding a traveling buddy in long time friend James Akroyd, we planned and saved up for a round the world trip which would take us to Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. We flew out of London at the very end of January 2008 and Returned via New York in mid July.
Having thoroughly enjoyed my experience of a lifetime I returned home, and in September 2008 moved into a flat in Newcastle under Lyme with my girlfriend Alessandra while she completed her Masters Degree at Keele University.
Naturally I am an avid gamer, and currently own a Playstation 3 and a high-spec gaming PC. My first gaming system was an Amiga Commodore 500 - back in the days of floppy disks! It was originally bought for me as a learning tool by my parents when I was a child. However the likes of Fun School 4 were soon replaced with Mortal Kombat, Virocop, and Worms. Believe it or not the Amiga was not replaced until I got a Nintendo 64, which yes means I completely missed out on the likes of the NES, SNES, Megadrive, and Playstation. It's kind of funny how things work out: I became obsessed with games even though I was deprived of owning some of the most iconic systems in the history of games.
I am also a big fan of film and music (particularly 80's rock and metal) and I enjoy playing 5 a side football with the lads from work. I have been playing the guitar for 7 years and am lucky enough to own a Gibson Les Paul Standard which I bought in the States before flying home at the end of my round the world trip in 2008.
