Showreel
The above cg scene was created as part of my final year project at Staffordshire University, through which I explored advanced 3D modelling and lighting solutions. In an effort to gain further experience in 3D modelling, I set myself the challenge of building a more complex and organic looking object.
I have always been a fan of Ridley Scott's film classic ALIEN, and the terrifying life forms and otherworldly environment featured in it. The famous Alien, created by Swiss surrealist H.R.Giger, became the focus of my project as it presented a suitable challenge and test of my modelling abilities.
Using 3D Studio Max, I built Giger's Alien using polygonal modelling techniques and rigged it using a custom built bone structure. I then built a temple environment, inspired by the film ALIEN vs PREDATOR, to use as a backdrop for the Alien creature model.
[Credit should be given to 2D/3D Artist David Gurrea, whose textures were used for the stonework within the temple environment. He has a great website at www.davegh.com which provides a number of material libraries comprised of some of his early work as a Texture Artist].
The Alien was then posed within the temple scene, and lit using Light Tracer and volumetric lighting, to create the final renders.
